We pay respect to our great friend, Joep Steinmeijer, whose work is memorialized here. Joep died without bothering to tell us in November, 2009. Joep was an early NadaDada artist from afar and particpated at every Dada Motel and Nada Motel exhibit from the start. He was a primary example of the power of digital media; an old artist who lived by himself near a canal in the Netherlands... And a famous artist who had friends throughout the world... Including here, in Reno, with NadaDada artists, Sav and Di and S.K. James.
This is a virtual exhibit of an actual exhibit that took place in July 2008 for Reno Artown that was called:
Dada Insurgency
Apocalypse, absurdity, sexuality, and revolution against the politics of art comprised several of the subjects explored.
The Dada Insurgency exhibit predicted the inevitable friction that international success would bring to a small, formerly unnoticed, community of artists living in the High Sierra... It foretold what would become the the legendary story at:
Dada Motel is now regarded as the most important art movement in Nevada's cultural history, and the artists featured here, Dianna Sion (Lady Di), S.K.James, Saverio Cine and Joep Steinmeijer, were among Dada Motel's hottest original occupants.
Since 2007 Dada Motel has become NadaDada and and is composed of between 100 and 200 artists, most of whom call the rugged and beautiful landscape of northern Nevada their home...
